The National Academy of Sciences believes that sooner or later earthquakes will affect the entire territory of Ukraine.

The most powerful tremors with an intensity of 8 points on the Richter scale are possible in the southwest of Odesa region.

Seismologist of the National Academy of Sciences Oleksandr Kendzera told about this on the air of the telethon.

He explained that earthquakes are possible in Ukraine, because it is located in the same seismic zone as Turkey.

This seismically active belt constantly generates aftershocks.

The seismologist added that earthquakes depend on the

speed with which the plates move,

which in turn determines the accumulation of energy.

"This belt was formed due to the fact that the Eurasian plate presses on the Arabian and African plates. Obviously, the movement of these plates cannot be stopped, so sooner or later there will be earthquakes," he said.

The seismologist mentioned the Vranca zone, which is located in Romania.

An earthquake on this seisoactive plate can be felt throughout the territory of Ukraine.

Local seismically active zones are recorded

near the Crimea and Transcarpathia.
