On the Turkish-Armenian border, for the first time in 35 years, a checkpoint was opened for the delivery of humanitarian aid from Armenia to people affected by powerful earthquakes in the south of Turkey.

This is reported by Anadolu.

Five trucks with humanitarian aid from Armenia crossed the border through the Alikan checkpoint in Igdir province in eastern Turkey.

The video of Armenian trucks with humanitarian aid crossing the bridge in the direction of Turkey was released by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Vahan Kostanyan.

The special representative of Turkey for discussing steps to normalize relations with Armenia, Serdar Kilic, thanked the leadership of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia for their help.

The Alikan border crossing point was last used in 1988, when a strong earthquake occurred in Armenia, and Turkey sent aid to the affected areas.

Last year, Turkey and Armenia agreed to open the land border as soon as possible for citizens of third countries visiting both countries.

As part of this effort, from February 2022, the parties resumed commercial flights, which had previously been banned for two years.

It should be noted that the border between the two neighboring countries has been closed since 1993 due to conflicts over a number of issues, including Armenia's occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the events of 1915, during the Ottoman Empire.

We will remind, the number of people who died as a result of the earthquake

in Turkey and Syria increased to 24,218 people.
