China wants to increase its stockpile of nuclear warheads to 900 by 2035 as it prepares for an escalation with the US via Taiwan.

This was reported by Kyodo News with reference to Chinese sources.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has already approved the appropriate plan developed by the People's Liberation Army.

As some experts in international relations warn, if Beijing achieves the goal of modernizing the armed forces, it

may abandon its "no first use" policy.

"In November, the senior leadership of the Chinese armed forces confirmed the importance of the lethal potential, analyzing that Russia's strong nuclear deterrent prevented a head-on collision between NATO and Moscow, despite its aggression against Ukraine," the article states.

According to sources,

the number of nuclear warheads in China may increase to 550 in 2027

.

Then the country will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the armed forces.

And by 2035, the number of Chinese nuclear warheads may reach 900.

There are also reports of growing fears that Taiwan may become a hot spot for military conflict in the Asia-Pacific region in the near future.

Let us add that, according to the Stockholm International Institute for the Study of World Problems,

Russia has 5,977 nuclear warheads, and the United States has 5,428.

It will be recalled that in January, the Taiwanese authorities announced the expectation that China would invade the island in 2027.

As the head of the Foreign Ministry of Taiwan, Joseph Wu, explained, in 2027, Chinese leader Xi Jinping will run for a fourth term and, in order to divert the attention of the population from internal problems, he may start a war on the island.
