A scientist has discovered an anomaly in earthquakes in Turkey.

"Two strong earthquakes in a row in Turkey is an anomaly, as usually the second quake is weaker than the first," said Dmitry Gladkochub, director of the Institute of the Earth's Crust of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"There were other strong earthquakes there, but two this strong is certainly an anomaly... Aftershocks are usually weaker than the first one," Gladkochub was quoted as saying by Meteo Balkans.

According to him, this is precisely why there are so many victims and destruction.

More than 21,000 are the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria

The first 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey on February 6.

Then on the same day there was a more powerful earthquake of 7.8 on the Richter scale.

On February 7, the magnitude of the earthquake was already 5.4 points.

The incident affected about 17 countries, including the seismic waves reached Russia.
