Construction in Bulgaria is of better quality than in Turkey and Albania.

There is speculation about the "expiry date" of the buildings. Prof. Petar Pavlov, head of the National Center for Seismic Engineering, stated this on the air of Nova News.

All about the topic:

He comments on the main problems that reduce the seismic resistance of buildings - design, operation, poor materials, etc.

Prof. Pavlov explained that after the earthquake in Vrancha, the Bulgarian authorities have taken steps to increase the security standards of buildings.

In 1987, they rose again, he added.

"After 2010, buildings are calculated according to Eurocode 8 (part of the system for sizing structures for seismic effects).

Therefore, I can say that the quality of construction in Bulgaria is much higher than in Turkey and Albania," he said.

"The issue of building operation control is problematic," explained the expert.

Prof. Pavlov reassured that in the event of earthquakes in Bulgaria, "buildings are expected to react well".

A seismologist revealed why buildings reacted differently to the strong earthquake in Turkey

He is of the opinion that Bulgaria needs a laboratory complex in which to carry out experimental studies of building systems and to make recommendations for strengthening and extending the life of buildings.
