The Russian army has lost at least 1,000 tanks since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

This number can be up to half of the entire operational tank fleet

of Russia

, which it had

at the beginning of the war.

This is reported by CNN with reference to the data of the monitoring group Oryx, which collects visual evidence of the loss of military equipment in Ukraine.

According to the information of the monitoring group, the number of lost tanks of the Russian Federation in combination with those captured or abandoned amounts to at least a thousand units.

It is noted that 544 Russian tanks were captured by Ukrainian fighters, 79 were damaged and 65 were abandoned.

These are only losses that researchers can confirm visually.

According to Yakub Yanovsky, a military analyst of the monitoring group, the actual losses of the Russian Federation may amount to about 2,000 tanks.

"Russia started the war with about 3,000 serviceable tanks ... so there is a good chance that Russia lost half of its serviceable tanks," he said.

At the same time, the monitoring group adds that more than 500 tanks that Ukraine seized from Russia cover 459 tanks that were lost by the Armed Forces.

Significantly,

according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces

, from February 24, 2022 to February 9, 2023, Russia lost about

3,255 tanks

and 6,468 BBMs in Ukraine.
