Rumen Georgiev Radev is a Bulgarian military man, major general from the reserve.

A former commander of will represent Bulgaria at the extraordinary meeting of the European Council, which will be held today and tomorrow in Brussels, announced the press office of the head of state.

Among the highlights of the summit will be Russia's war against Ukraine, the economic state of the European Union (EU) with a focus on the new initiatives presented by the European Commission to promote the Union's competitiveness.

The topic of the meeting will also be migration and ensuring the security of the EU's external borders.

The Council of Ministers approved the position of Bulgaria for participation in the extraordinary meeting of the European Council.

In the context of the economy, leaders are expected to adopt conclusions that lay the foundations for action aimed at ensuring long-term competitiveness, economic well-being and a leading role on the world stage for the European Union.

These actions are based on a comprehensive approach to strengthen the Union's economic, industrial and technological base and European sovereignty and strategic autonomy.

European leaders will further discuss the migration situation and assess the implementation of the conclusions of June, October and December 2021, with the aim of strengthening work in the following directions: more effective control of the EU's external borders;

enhanced external action with countries of origin and transit;

strengthening cooperation on return and readmission;

combating migrant smuggling;

progress on the Pact on Migration and Asylum.
