On February 9, 2023, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Karen Donfried.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA that the parties held a detailed discussion on the current agenda of bilateral relations between the two countries, the situation in the region and the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stressed that the protest action on the Lachin road is legitimate and it is necessary to fulfill the demands of those who carried out the action.

The fact that there is no evidence of a "blockade" and a "difficult humanitarian situation" in the region has been brought to attention.

Despite Azerbaijan's proposals to ensure peace and stability in the region, Armenia's gross violation of obligations such as obstacles to peace agreement negotiations, failure to fully withdraw its armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan, military provocations, and illegal economic activity were once again mentioned.

The minister said that it is important for Armenia to sit down at the negotiating table as soon as possible, instead of allowing manipulations and making provocative statements about the peace agreement negotiation process.

During the telephone conversation, the parties also exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
