The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria has reached 16,000.

An Al-Jazeera report explains.

Deaths are divided into two parts, the largest being Turkey where they have reached 12,873 and 3,162 for Syria.

Authorities say hopes of finding survivors are fading and residents of southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria are criticizing the rapid search and rescue efforts.

The President of Turkey, Recep Erdogan has admitted that the rescue authorities have limitations, he said "we have limitations" in the response of his government when he visited some of the most affected areas in the south of Turkey.


The rescue operation is going on for both the areas.
