The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the United States must answer questions about its role in the underwater explosions of the Nord Stream gas pipelines last year, BTA reported.

In her comments regarding the information published earlier today that the USA was involved in the explosion, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called on the White House to comment on the information thus presented.

The Reuters agency indicates that it has not been able to confirm the information published on the blog of the American investigative journalist Seymour Hirsch, which claims that the United States was involved in the explosions.

The White House said today that the information published by Hirsch was "absolutely false and a complete fabrication."

Russia insists on participation in Nord Stream sabotage investigation

Moscow has repeatedly said, without providing evidence, that the West was responsible for the explosions that affected the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines last September. Western officials have denied the accusations.

"The White House must now comment on all these facts," Zakharova wrote in her Telegram post, which also summarized Hirsch's main claims about alleged US involvement.

Investigators from Sweden and Denmark - in whose exclusive economic zones the blasts took place - said the blasts were the result of sabotage, but did not say which country they believed was responsible.

Moscow said they "have something to hide" and are deliberately not allowing Russia to participate in the investigation.

Construction on Nord Stream 2, which would have doubled the amount of gas Russia could send directly to Germany, was completed in September 2021, but the pipeline never became operational after Berlin refused to certify it just a few days before Moscow sent its troops into Ukraine.
