Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafi Gibali within the framework of her official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

APA reports with reference to the press and public relations department of the Milli Majlis that the chairman of the House of Representatives, expressing his satisfaction with the visit of the head of the Azerbaijani parliament to Egypt, said that he believes that this visit will significantly boost the development of inter-parliamentary relations.

Paying attention to the 30-year period of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Hanafi Gibali highly appreciated the achievements achieved during the past period and the current state of relations.

Referring to the business visit of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdulfattah Al-Sisi to Azerbaijan in January of this year, the negotiations and agreements reached during the visit, he noted that there is great potential for further expansion of bilateral relations.

Paying attention to the high level of relations between the parliaments of the two countries, Hanafi Gibali said that there are good opportunities for further expansion of these relations.

The chairman of the chamber said that the cooperation of friendship groups in both parliaments will be especially useful in this regard.

Touching on the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, Hanafi Gibali highly appreciated the initiative of establishing the Parliamentary Network of Azerbaijan and the work done in this context.

He emphasized that the Egyptian parliament sees itself as a part of the Parliamentary Network and is fully ready to further strengthen cooperation within the Network.

Expressing her gratitude for the high hospitality shown to the Azerbaijani delegation, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova noted that the current level of development of relations between Azerbaijan and Egypt is satisfactory.

According to him, mutual visits and meetings at the level of heads of state are important in the development of our relations.

In this sense, the official visit of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Egypt in May 2007 and the business visits of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdulfattah Al-Sisi to Azerbaijan on January 27-28 of this year have an important role in the history of Egyptian-Azerbaijani relations.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that today the relations between our countries cover many areas, and also said that joint activities and mutual support of Azerbaijan and Egypt within the framework of international organizations, especially the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement are also satisfying.

At the meeting, speaker Sahiba Gafarova pointed out that parliaments have their place in the relations between our countries.

Effective cooperation between our parliaments has been established today, and there are good opportunities to further deepen this cooperation.

Mutual visits and meetings of parliament chairmen and members give an important impetus to the development of this cooperation.

According to him, friendship groups play the role of a bridge between their activities and our parliaments.

It was also noted that our parliaments have a good experience of cooperation within the framework of international parliamentary organizations - the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The newly formed Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network will also become an effective platform for inter-parliamentary cooperation with our joint efforts.

Sahiba Gafarova noted that we can further strengthen relations between our parliaments with mutual visits of our friendship groups, exchange of experience and cooperation of relevant committees.

Informing about the situation in the region after Azerbaijan's victory in the 44-day Patriotic War and restoration of its territorial integrity, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis noted that our country is currently carrying out large-scale reconstruction and reconstruction works in the territories freed from occupation.

The return of former IDPs to their native lands has already begun.

Unfortunately, all our cities, villages, historical, cultural and religious monuments in those areas were razed to the ground.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that Armenia should refrain from its destructive behavior that creates an obstacle to peace and should take real steps to sign a peace agreement.

This is the only way to ensure long-term peace and stability in the region.

At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
