[Instant News/Comprehensive Report] A 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit the border between southern Turkey and northern Syria at 4:17 a.m. local time on the 6th, followed by another 7.5-magnitude earthquake at 1:24 p.m., which severely damaged Turkey and Syria. In the United States, many buildings collapsed, and the prison where members of the Islamic State were held in northern Syria was also damaged. At least 20 Islamic jihadists escaped from prison.

According to Agence France-Presse, a prison for members of the Islamic State in northwestern Syria was also damaged in the strong earthquake. The war monitor for the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it had no way of knowing whether prisoners had escaped, but confirmed there was unrest at the prison.
