A strong earthquake occurred in Turkey. According to statistics from the Tourism Bureau, about 414 Taiwanese are still in Turkey.

[Reporter Ding Yi/Report from Taipei] A 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit the border between southern Turkey and northern Syria in the early morning of the 6th local time, causing heavy casualties.

According to the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Communications, there are currently about 17 tour groups in Turkey with 414 passengers, but none of them went to the earthquake-hit area, nor did they receive emergency reports from travel agencies.

The largest earthquake in a century hit southern Turkey. At least 4,372 people died and 5,606 buildings collapsed. Taiwan also sent a rescue team to rescue the victims.

After inquiries, Xiongshi, Kangfu, Phoenix International, Two-Way International, Xihong, Fusheng, Shanfu International, Wufu, Changfan, and Southeast mainly handle Turkish routes. As for group travel by travel agencies, there are currently about 17 tourist groups in Turkey with 414 passengers, but no tourist group went to the earthquake-hit area.

The Tourism Bureau pointed out that it has not received emergency reports from travel agencies at present, and will continue to pay attention to and grasp the follow-up situation.
