The Minister of Defense of Ukraine

Oleksiy Reznikov

may be dismissed this week against the background of corruption scandals in the department.

People's deputies actively discuss possible personnel rotations in the Cabinet of Ministers and name candidates for the position of the head of the Ministry of Defense.

However, the President of Ukraine and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Volodymyr Zelenskyi

should have the last word

.

TSN.ua has gathered details about Reznikov's possible resignation.

Who can head the Ministry of Defense

People's deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak

was one of the first to announce the replacement of the Minister of Defense

.

According to his information, the candidacy of Kirill Budanov, who currently heads the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense, is being considered for Reznikov's place.

"The Ministry of Defense can change its head. For now, they say that

Kyrylo Budanov

from GUR will become the head. I think he is effective in his positions now, but as it is," Zheleznyak said.

According to "Ukrainian Pravda", the president's team is currently thinking about where to transfer Reznikov, because "no one in the OPU has any doubts that he should remain in the team."

As the newspaper reports, the option is being considered that Reznikov will become the new minister of justice, and the current minister, Denys Malyuska, may be sent as an ambassador to one of the European countries.

Later, the head of the "Servant of the People" faction in the Verkhovna Rada

, David Arakhamiya

, confirmed that the head of the GUR, Major General Kyrylo Budanov, will head the Ministry of Defense, "which is absolutely logical for wartime."

According to him,

Reznikov is being transferred to the position of Minister of Strategic Industries

"to strengthen military-industrial cooperation, taking into account his expertise on Ramstein and the need to "raise" the ministry, which should do more."

Reznikov's reaction to possible dismissal

Meanwhile,

Oleksiy Reznikov

himself  reported that he had

not received any offers to head the Ministry of Strategic Industries

"This is news to me. I have not had any conversation about the Ministry of Strategic Industry with the President of Ukraine, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief," Reznikov said.

He added that he would refuse such a position, as he does not have the necessary experience and knowledge to perform this job well.

The Minister of Defense also noted that "no official is in the chair forever."

"The decision whether I should be the Minister of Defense or not is made by one person - Supreme Commander-in-Chief and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in accordance with the Constitution. He submits a proposal for appointment, and the Verkhovna Rada appoints. Therefore, only by the decision of the President of Ukraine, I will make certain decisions , and then I will do what the head of state offers me," said Reznikov.

He also promised to support his successor in case of dismissal and to provide him with advice and consultations if necessary.

Scandals in the Ministry of Defense

Talks about the resignation of

Oleksiy Reznikov

were preceded by loud scandals in the Ministry of Defense.

On January 21, documents were leaked to the Internet, according to which officials of the Ministry of Defense concluded an agreement for 13.16 billion UAH for the purchase of food for servicemen at two or three times more expensive than in Kyiv stores.

In turn, the Ministry of Defense stated that "the information about the content of the procurement of food services, which has become widespread in the public space, is disseminated with signs of deliberate manipulation and is misleading."

The result of the scandal was the resignation of Deputy Minister

Vyacheslav Shapovalov

.

Bohdan Khmelnytskyi

, director of the procurement department, was also dismissed from his position

.

On February 1, the SBU handed suspicions to Khmelnytskyi and Shapovalov.

The SBU also reported that they had exposed "the former head of the Department of State Procurement and Supply of Material Resources of the Ministry of Defense for the embezzlement of over UAH 100 million of state funds."

According to the investigation materials, this official purchased almost 3,000 low-quality bulletproof vests for more than UAH 100 million for the Armed Forces.

In addition, the head of the department of military-technical policy, development of weapons and military equipment

Oleksandr Liev

resigned .

Anti-corruption

activist Vitaly Shabunin

made public information that Liev supported the illegal "referendum" in Crimea and expressed pro-Russian views.

Shabunin also accused the official of corruption.

Liev announced an information campaign against him, after which he wrote a resignation letter.

In turn, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense warned on January 27 that it expects "a broad information and psychological special operation to discredit a number of representatives of the Ukrainian military-political leadership" in the near future.

The GUR predicted that such a campaign would be directed against a number of leaders of law enforcement agencies, including Reznikov, and would take the form of "throwing" fabricated materials into Ukrainian and international mass media.

The goal of such IPSOs in the GUR was called an attempt "to sow uncertainty in the defense capabilities of our state among Ukrainian citizens and international partners" and to undermine trust in Ukraine.
