As a result of the terrorist attack against the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Islamic Republic of Iran on January 27 of this year, the head of the security service of the embassy, Orkhan Asgarov, was martyred, and two employees, Vasif Taghiyev and Mahir Imanov, were seriously injured.

APA reports that Aykhan Hajizadeh, the head of the press service department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, informed about this in a briefing held today.

"Through the embassy's surveillance cameras, the progress of the terrorist attack was recorded.

So, firstly, before committing the act of attack, the terrorist drove past the embassy twice with his car on January 27, 2023 at 08:05 and 08:24 in order to choose a suitable moment to commit the crime.

At 08:32, immediately after the employees of the embassy entered the main entrance door of the administrative building of the diplomatic mission, the terrorist drove the vehicle at high speed and deliberately hit the service car of the mission parked in front of the embassy.

Reacting to the resulting noise, the terrorist, who took advantage of the opening of the door of the embassy by the employee of the embassy, took an automatic weapon from his car, gestured to the Iranian police officer on duty at the entrance gate, opened fire and immediately entered the embassy building.

At 08:34, 2 minutes after the terrorist entered the embassy, a vehicle belonging to the Iranian police arrived near the embassy, but after a few seconds of conversation with a police officer standing near the entrance gate, it left the area.

Within 4 minutes - that is, until 08:36, the terrorist fired numerous shots at our employees inside the administrative building of the embassy.

Another employee of the embassy, Vasif Taghiyev, attacked the terrorist in order to neutralize him and engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the terrorist.

While the employee of the embassy was neutralizing the terrorist, the perpetrator of the terrorist attack shot from a machine gun and wounded our employee in the shoulder.

Nevertheless, he continued to fight with the terrorist and succeeded in removing the comb of the machine gun in the terrorist's hand.

At that time, the terrorist took out the pistol he kept in his jacket and opened fire.

Taghiyev was wounded in the jaw this time (later, during the inspection of the territory of the embassy, the "Colt" brand pistol that fell on the terrorist was found in that place).

Despite being wounded, V. Taghiyev was able to push the criminal out of the embassy building.

Despite the fact that the terrorist entered the embassy by force, continuous gunshots were heard from inside the building, and V. Taghiyev called for help to neutralize the terrorist, the Iranian police officer standing at the post at the entrance gate not only did not intervene in the incident, but even left his post and left the area.

The terrorist, who was taken out of the embassy building, took a spare comb from his jacket pocket, put it on his machine gun, gestured to someone twice, then fired continuously at the entrance door of the embassy, as well as at the windows of the apartments where the family members of the diplomats live in the embassy building.

During this period, the terrorist ignited the tires of the car 2 times in order to burn the vehicle belonging to the embassy with the combustible substance he brought with him.

Seeing that the entrance door was strong and it was difficult to open it with the fire of an automatic weapon, the terrorist tried to break the door with a heavy impact tool taken from the trunk of his car, and entered the embassy for the second time to kill the diplomats and their family members.

V. Taghiyev threw a fire extinguisher at the terrorist who tried to climb to the second floor of the embassy in the midst of the fire, injuring him in the head (it was not monitored by the surveillance cameras at the moment), and as a result, the terrorist was forced to leave the building.

After going out into the street, the terrorist once again gestured to some people standing in the distance and put down his machine gun, but the police did not approach him.

Next time, taking advantage of the fact that the police did not intervene in the incident, the terrorist tried to set fire to the vehicle belonging to our representative office standing in front of our embassy by taking the Molotov cocktail-type incendiary substance that he had brought with him from his car.

At that time, the police immediately intervened on the terrorist who carelessly used himself.

At the same time, the police did not hurry to arrest the terrorist, started talking to him, did not treat him like a criminal and took a spectator position.

The terrorist, who used this, wandered around the area for some time and started threatening and insulting the diplomats of our embassy, saying "I will kill all of you".

The police have not yet reacted.

After that, the terrorist freely approached the embassy building and broke the door.

Later, the terrorist insisted V. Taghiyev to come down from the window of the embassy, demanding his arrest, and when V. Taghiyev came down, he threatened him again and wanted to attack him.

Only after all this, the police handcuffed the terrorist and put him in a car and left the area.

At this time, an unknown person with a mask on his face took unknown items from the terrorist's car and left the area.

We would like to inform you that in recent days some social networks and media resources have included inaccurate comments regarding the chronology of the terrorist incident.

The main reason for this was wrong references to the timing in the video footage.

In this regard, we inform you that the cameras of the embassy facing the street show the time 24 minutes earlier than the real time.

This difference is due to some technical factors.

The fact that the terrorist chose Friday, which is a holiday in Iran, to commit the incident (to minimize the circumstances that could interfere with the terrorist act), he brought with him to the scene a spare comb full of automatic weapons and bullets, a "Colt" type pistol, a "Molotov cocktail", a heavy impact tool and other means, the failure of the Iranian police to intervene in the terrorist act gives reason to assume that the incident was planned in advance," he said.
