An unmanned aircraft exploded near the Russian city of Kaluga, regional governor Vladislav Shapsha said, adding that no one was injured in the explosion, Reuters reported.

"It was established that the drone exploded in the air at a height of 50 meters in the forest near the city at five o'clock in the morning," he wrote in Telegram.

Kaluga is located about 150 km southwest of Moscow and 260 km from the border with Ukraine.

The governor did not specify whose drone it was.

In the past, Russia has claimed that Ukrainian drones have flown over its territory and damaged civilian infrastructure.

Reuters points out that Kyiv has always denied such claims.
