Pervez Musharraf died on Sunday in a hospital in Dubai.

New Delhi:

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said on Sunday that "I grew up in an India where people are expected to speak kindly when they die." Responding to strong criticism, Tharoor said in a tweet " I grew up in an India where when people die, you are expected to speak kindly about them.

Pervez Musharraf was a staunch enemy, responsible for Kargil, but in his own interest, worked for peace with India in 2002-7.

He was no friend but he saw strategic advantage in peace, as we did.

I was raised in an India where you are expected to speak kindly of people when they die.

Musharraf was an implacable enemy & was responsible for Kargil but he did work for peace w/ India, in his own interest, 2002-7.

He was no friend but he saw strategic benefit in peace, as did we.

Earlier, Tharoor had tweeted, "Former President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf passed away due to a rare disease: Tharoor, once a staunch enemy of India, had become a real force for peace between 2002-2007." ''''''' I met him every year in those days at the United Nations and found him shrewd and clear in his diplomatic views.

May God give peace to the departed soul.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reacted sharply to Tharoor condoling Musharraf's death and accused the Congress of being "pro-Pakistan".

Supreme Court will get 5 new judges today, the number of judges will increase to 32

Tagging Tharoor's tweet, BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla had said, "Parvez Musharraf was the conspirator of the Kargil war, a dictator, accused of heinous crimes."

He considered Taliban and Osama as 'brothers' and 'heroes' and refused to take back the bodies of his own soldiers, he is being praised by the Congress!

Are you surprised?

Congress's favoritism to Pakistan has again come to the fore.

He said, "Once upon a time, Musharraf had praised Rahul Gandhi as a gentleman, perhaps because of this the Congress likes Musharraf."

Poonawalla said, "From Article 370 to 'surgical strikes' and raising doubts over Balakot, the Congress praised Musharraf but called our own chief a 'street goon'...this is the Congress."

In another tweet, the BJP leader shared an old video of Musharraf being invited by Rahul Gandhi to his son during his visit to Delhi as the President of Pakistan and his (Musharraf's) wife being greeted by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Were talking about inviting brother and son for lunch.

Tagging the video, Poonawalla said in a tweet, "Pervez Musharraf, who praised Osama bin Laden and the Taliban, also praised Rahul Gandhi as a gentleman and pledged his support."

Perhaps this is the reason why Shashi Tharoor is praising the mastermind of the Kargil war and the supporter of terrorism
