Hundreds of thousands of people still remain without electricity in the Odesa region.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said this in his traditional video address on the evening of February 5.

Zelensky thanked everyone involved in the liquidation of the consequences of the energy accident in the Odesa region.

He assured that restoration works are ongoing around the

clock

.

"And of course, before the Russian terror, such problems with electricity in Odesa and in other regions of the country could not have existed in principle. Now, extraordinary efforts are needed to ensure the normal operation of the power system. I thank the energy workers, repairmen, officials - everyone who works to to restore normal technical possibilities of electricity supply and to preserve our generation," he said.

The President talked about important agreements with Western partners for energy.

In particular, the

European Union is ready to support Ukraine by supplying electricity

.

"We are increasing cooperation in the

supply of energy equipment

," the head of state said.

Energy saving initiatives

According to Zelenskyi, in just one week, people have already received the first million LED lamps in exchange for energy-consuming incandescent lamps.

More than 800,000 applications for this program are already in Diya.

"When we fully implement the program, which is 30 million LED lamps, it will provide

significant savings in consumption

. I thank the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, for supporting this initiative," he concluded.

We will remind that two large-scale accidents occurred at the substation in Odesa last day. 

As of this morning, about 280,000 people (up to 40% of consumers) in Odesa remained without electricity.

There are emergency power outages in the city.

The head of "Ukrenergo" announced that the situation with electricity supply in Odesa will improve no earlier than Friday, February 10.
