The Carnival in Venice opened last night with a spectacular spectacle of a large floating platform that passed through the entire Grand Canal, from the area in front of the Santa Lucia railway station to St. Mark's Square, reports the website of the Venice Municipality.

The play was called "Original Dreamers".

50 artists participated in it - clowns, actors and acrobats, accompanied by the music of percussionists and the performances of an opera quartet.

Atop the lavishly decorated floating platform was a colonnade reminiscent of the columns of St. Mark's Square in Venice, as well as an enormous unicorn head.

All this was illuminated by fires and a light show.

During the performance, scenes were performed inspired by operas staged in the Venetian opera house "La Fenice", by the symbolism of the Carnival and by this year's theme of the manifestation, namely the zodiac signs.

At the center of the show on the floating platform was the young Alice Bars, who last year won the competition for the most beautiful girl of the Carnival.

The Venice Carnival will be held online due to the pandemic

The spectacle was watched by thousands of Venetians and guests of the city, who gathered on both banks of the Grand Canal and on the three bridges above it - "Scalzi", "Rialto" and "Bridge of the Academy".

From the palace that houses the municipality of Venice, the show was followed by the mayor of the city, Luigi Bruniaro, and a number of political representatives.

The Venice Carnival continues until February 21.

In questa kermesse fantastica si inserisce anche una Colombina delicata e scintillante: Alice Bars, Maria del Carnevale 2022.
