Heavy snowfall caused accidents and power outages in many places in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and there were two deaths due to the severe weather in Poland.

In the Polish village of Chiszcz, located near the border with Slovakia, an elderly woman died after the storm brought down a tree on her home.

The authorities in northern Slovakia declared a state of emergency in 27 municipalities.

Several popular ski resorts were closed.

Residents of Žilina and nearby towns were urged to stay in their homes and go out only in case of extreme necessity, reports BNT. 

Downed trees from the storm left tens of thousands of households without power in the Czech Republic.

Rescue services helped two injured people near the town of Jablone nad Orlitzi, located near the Polish border, after a tree fell on their car.

Nearly 240 flights from Istanbul canceled due to bad weather

In Austria, avalanches in the area of ​​three resort villages in the western parts of the country took the lives of three people, France Press adds.

Among the victims are a Chinese and a New Zealand tourist.

The incidents took place in Kaltenbach, Sölden and Voralberg.

In neighboring Switzerland, an avalanche also killed two off-piste skiers in the canton of Grisons.
