Francis (in Latin: Franciscus PP.), until his election Jorge Mario Bergoglio - Roman Pope from March 13, returns today to the Vatican, ending his six-day visit to Congo and South Sudan, DPA reported.

Before leaving Juba, Francis plans to celebrate Holy Mass in the South Sudanese capital this morning.

During his trip, the Pope called on the population and politicians of South Sudan, which is torn by armed conflict, to pray for peace.

The Holy Father was accompanied and supported by two Protestant church leaders from the former colonial power Great Britain - the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and the Moderator of the Church of Scotland Ian Greenshields.

Welby and Greenshields plan to return with Francis, who is expected to land in Rome in the late afternoon.
