The General Election of the Association of Sports Journalists in the country (TASWA), was held today and witnessed Amir Mhando being elected as the new Chairman of the Association.

MEMBERS of the Sports Journalists Association (TASWA) have elected Amiri Mhando as their new chairman.

He replaces Juma Pinto whose term in office has ended.

Mhando has come to power after getting 57 votes and defeating his opponent Mbwana Shomari who got only 10 votes.

"I thank you for the trust you have given me and I promise to serve you and take Taswa far, including conducting various seminars to build the capacity of all writers," said Mhando while asking for cooperation from the delegates.

In the election held in Dar es Salaam today, Sunday, the position of Secretary General has been taken by Alfred Lucas who got 57 votes while his opponent Issa Ndokeji got nine votes.

Imani Makongoro emerged as the winner in the position of Assistant General Secretary after getting all the votes of 68 yes.

The position of treasurer was taken by Dina Ismail who got 65 yes votes and the winners of the positions of delegates are Timzo Kalugira who got 62 votes and Nasyongelya Kilinga who got 60 votes.

The election, which was managed by the Sports Council in BMT, has been held for the first time after several years have passed without being held.
