Seized coins will be investigated

Mumbai:

In a joint operation, Delhi and Mumbai police seized coins worth Rs 9.4 lakh from a car belonging to a Malad resident and arrested a person.

The accused person has been identified as Jignesh Gala and has been arrested in connection with the distribution of coins.

According to the police, the coins which are suspected to be fake, will be examined by the Government Mint to see if they are genuine or not.

The Special Cell of Delhi Police was investigating a case of counterfeit currency and arrested 5 accused persons.

Delhi Police got a clue that a person related to their case is in Malad.

Delhi and Mumbai police approached Dindoshi police for assistance on 1 February.

After getting a green signal from senior officers, the police came to know that Gala works for a commission.

Police said, "During interrogation, accused Jignesh Gala disclosed that he was involved in the purchase and supply of Indian currency coins for the last 7-8 years. Initially, he used to buy currency from banks, local traders and old traders in Surat. However, while working in the sector, he also started collecting FICCs from unknown persons and it was during this time that he met mastermind Naresh Kumar, who offered him a regular supply of FICCs," 

Police further said that Naresh Kumar used to transport consignments of Indian currency coins from Jaipur to Mumbai in various passenger buses.

"Later, he started sending such consignments through travel agents as well. Each such consignment contained FICC worth Rs 8-10 lakhs. Over a period of about 2 years, he received about 15-16 such consignments. and circulated them in the open.After custody, the accused was handed over to the Delhi Police.
