Japan intends to join US restrictions on Beijing's export of semiconductor and chip-making equipment to China.

According to APA, "Kyodo" agency reported on this today.

The document does not mention China directly to avoid possible retaliatory steps by Beijing.

It was said that the project will be presented in the near future and consultations will be held with Japanese companies.

Restrictions on exports of semiconductor and chip-making equipment to China are expected to take effect in the spring.

It should be noted that Washington limited the export of semiconductors in October 2022 to hinder China's chip production.

But the U.S. fears that the restrictions will not be effective if exports to China from Japan and the Netherlands, the world's leading companies in semiconductor manufacturing equipment, continue.

Therefore, the US asked Japan and the Netherlands to join these export restrictions.
