Fisheries experts pointed out that it is quite unusual for sharks to appear in the Swann River where the accident happened, and the last shark fatality in the Swann River was pushed back to January 1923 when a 13-year-old boy was killed. Water residents should be extra cautious.

It is understood that there are usually 20 shark attacks in Australia every year, most of which are concentrated in the waters of New South Wales and Western Australia. In 2021, there were 2 deaths and 7 deaths in 2020.
