New Delhi :

Amidst the long-running tussle between the executive and the judiciary over the collegium, the central government has cleared the names of five judges for the Supreme Court.

Facing tough questions from the top court, the central government had claimed a day earlier that the collegium's pending recommendations for elevation of five Supreme Court judges would be announced by Sunday.

After this, today the President has approved the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium.

With this, the Supreme Court has got five new judges.

It is believed that on Monday, they can take oath as judges of the Supreme Court.

After this, the number of judges in the Supreme Court has increased to 32.

Appointments can be made next week on the remaining two recommendations. 

A warrant has been issued to appoint Justice Pankaj Mittal, Justice Sanjay Karol, Justice PV Sanjay Kumar, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice Manoj Mishra as Supreme Court judges. 

Explain that on December 13, 2022, the collegium has appointed Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Pankaj Mittal, Patna High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Karol, Manipur High Court Chief Justice PV Sanjay Kumar, Patna High Court Judge Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Allahabad High Court Judge Justice Manoj Mishra. It was recommended to make a Supreme Court judge. 


The Central Government had not yet approved his appointment.
