36.1 km of permanent fencing was built on the Latvian-Belarusian border.

Construction work has been ongoing since August 2022.

It is known that construction work is currently underway on 75 out of 82 km of the border cleared of trees. 

By the end of January this year, 36.1 km of permanent fencing was built.

However, the pace of work is planned to be accelerated 5 times - it is about 1 km per day.

In general, Latvia intends to build a fence on the border with Belarus with a length of 173 km.

According to the plan, the work should be completed in the spring of this year.

While the second - until the spring of 2024.

Note that the construction of the first nine priority sections of the permanent fence costs 53.57 million euros.

The costs for the implementation of the second stage will amount to 38.7 million euros.

It is noteworthy that the Minister of Internal Affairs of Latvia,

Maris Kuchinskis

, stated that his department is ready to ensure proper border protection in the event of mass escapes of Russians from mobilization to the territory of the neighboring country.

Let us add that Latvia is ready to boycott 

the 2024 Olympic Games

 in Paris if Russian and Belarusian athletes are admitted to them.
