The German government "started an active diplomatic offensive" and is trying to convince other states to take a concrete part in the supply of tanks to Ukraine.

Der Spiegel writes about it.

So far, no commitments regarding tanks have been received from European partners

, the material notes.

The article states that the German government has "launched an active diplomatic offensive" to carry out the planned supply of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

After all, both the chancellor's office and the German Ministry of Defense have growing doubts about the timely delivery of tanks.

It is reported that the German Ministry of Defense started negotiations with EU countries immediately after Chancellor Olaf Scholz's decision on tanks for Ukraine.

However, last week at a video conference arranged by the Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius, no EU country wanted to take any specific commitments regarding participation in the supply of more modern models of Leopard 2 A6 to Ukraine.

Then

Scholz held several telephone conversations, during which he tried to obtain

commitments from the heads of governments of other countries regarding the supply of tanks to Ukraine.

According to the publication, the chancellor was able to convince three of the countries of Northern and Southern Europe.

It is also noted that Pistorius urged several of his colleagues every day to finally show themselves.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany took part in the "diplomatic offensive".

We will remind, at the end of January, the Ambassador of Ukraine to France, Vadym Omelchenko, reported that the partner countries agreed to hand over at least 321 tanks to the state.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba, in the first wave of transfer of Western tanks to Ukraine, 120 to 140 vehicles will arrive: Leopard 2, Challenger 2, M1 Abrams.

As announced by the Minister of Defense Oleksiy Reznikov, Ukraine will use the main battle tanks provided by NATO countries for the counteroffensive.

In general, Ukraine needs from 500 to 700 tanks to liberate all territories.

This statement was made by a member of the parliamentary committee on national security, Fedor Venislavskyi.
