There was a fire in the prison in Plovdiv early this morning, no one was injured.

The fire was extinguished quickly by the on-duty teams of the fire department.

According to the information of the director of the prison, Zapryan Iliev, for unknown reasons, an old heating boiler caught fire and this led to heavy smoke coming through the chimney.

Subsequently, the wooden roof of the boiler room also caught fire.

It is located in a separate outbuilding outside the main prison building. 

The prisoners were not in danger during the incident, reported the head of the fire department in Plovdiv, Commissioner Georgi Mangarakov, BNT reports. 

6 fire crews attended the call at 6.12am this morning.

At 7 o'clock the fire was already extinguished.
