Photos of an unusual natural phenomenon noticed by local residents of Kyiv late in the evening on February 4 are circulating on the Internet.

This unique phenomenon is called a lunar halo.

Exciting photos are published in local publications.

This phenomenon looks like two or three oval rings around the Moon.

We should add that the lunar halo has also been observed by residents of other regions in recent days.

In particular, Rivne and Odessa.

As Space explains, halos

are caused by the refraction of moonlight

from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere, explaining that refraction

turns the atmosphere into a huge lens

and this causes the appearance of bright rings of light around the Moon or Sun.

Depending on this, halos appear - during the day or at night.

According to folk signs, the moon halo is a harbinger of approaching worsening weather, especially in the winter months.

However, scientists say that

it is not worth predicting bad weather in this way.
