The government in Pakistan's Punjab has told Chinese citizens living in the province amid frequent terror attacks in the country that it will not provide security to all of them and for this they should take the services of private security companies. 

The directive was issued by the Home Department of Punjab province on Thursday, days after a deadly terrorist attack on a mosque in the Police Lines area of ​​Peshawar city.

In the blast at the mosque, 101 people were killed, most of whom were policemen.

The directive said, "The Punjab Home Department has directed Chinese nationals living in the province or working with private companies to take the services of A-class private security companies for their security."

The Punjab government, however, clarified that it will continue to provide security to Chinese nationals working in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other government-related projects in the province.

In recent times, there have been several incidents in Pakistan in which Chinese citizens living in the country have been targeted for both government and private projects.

China has been pressing Pakistan to provide adequate security to its citizens working in the country's troubled areas.

In one such major incident in July 2021, ten Chinese nationals were killed and 26 others were seriously injured in a suicide attack on a bus carrying Chinese personnel at the Dasu hydropower project site in Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Most of whom were engineers.
