In order for diversification not to remain just a dream, the European Commission should fulfill its tasks and support the development of the necessary infrastructure in South-Eastern Europe.

APA informs that this was said by the Minister of Trade and Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijártó, during his speech at the 9th meeting of ministers within the framework of the Southern Gas Corridor Consultative Council and the 1st meeting of the ministers within the framework of the Green Energy Consultative Council.

"From our point of view, the most realistic scenario is to increase the production of Azerbaijani gas that will be delivered to the central part of Europe," said the minister, recalling the signing of a memorandum of understanding on natural gas between Hungary and Azerbaijan this week.

At the same time, Siyarto noted that this has certain initial infrastructure conditions: "Although increasing the transmission capacity of the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline is good news, important network development programs must also be implemented in Southeast Europe.

Therefore, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia appealed to the European Commission to treat the issue as a priority and to support the necessary measures to ensure the energy security of the Central European region.

If the European Union uses diversification not only as a political communication tool, then it is time for Brussels to initiate and finance the necessary infrastructure developments in South-Eastern Europe, thus enabling the attraction of increased gas production from Azerbaijan."
