On February 3, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the delegation led by the Commissioner for Energy Affairs of the European Union Mrs. Kadri Simson, who participated in the 9th meeting of ministers within the framework of the Southern Gas Corridor Consultative Council and the 1st meeting of the ministers within the framework of the Green Energy Consultative Council in Baku.

APA reports that the head of state thanked Kadri Simson for his participation in the event.

President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership in the field of energy signed between Azerbaijan and the European Union during the visit of Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, to our country in July of last year.

In accordance with the document on strategic partnership in the field of energy signed between the European Union and Azerbaijan, the head of state pointed out that our country intends to increase gas production by 2027 and that there are opportunities to access new markets through the interconnectors established between EU member countries.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that the 1st meeting of ministers on green energy will be held within the framework of the Southern Gas Corridor Consultative Council, as well as a meeting at the ministerial level between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary.

Emphasizing that our country has great resources in the field of renewable energy, the head of state said that the document signed between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary promises great prospects for bringing our country's electricity from renewable sources to the European market.

The President of Azerbaijan expressed hope that new initiatives and ideas will emerge as a result of the discussions to be held within the framework of the Southern Gas Corridor Consultative Council.

Kadri Simson expressed his gratitude for the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership in the field of energy between Azerbaijan and the European Union and pointed out that Azerbaijan's role in meeting the gas demand of the European Union member countries and its contributions to energy security are highly appreciated.

The guest said that Azerbaijan's support and assistance is highly appreciated in the tense time in terms of energy security in the EU space.

The commissioner for energy issues said that the EU is interested in expanding relations with Azerbaijan in the fields of natural gas and green energy, and is considering the possibility of cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of electricity, and is ready to cooperate in this direction.

During the conversation, views were exchanged on the perspectives of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union in various fields.

The importance of the European Union's contribution to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the Brussels peace process was emphasized.
