At least 17 people were killed today in an accident between a passenger bus and a truck in northwestern Pakistan, DPA reported, citing officials.

More than 20 people were injured.

Among those killed in the accident are at least two children and three women, writes BTA.

The collision happened on the highway near the town of Kohat in the North-West Frontier Province, said Bilal Faizi, an official involved in the rescue operation.

The collision came just days after a passenger bus fell off a highway bridge and caught fire in southwestern Pakistan, killing at least 41 people.

Road accidents are common in Pakistan due to lack of infrastructure, poorly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
