The Prime Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz, reiterated his country's willingness to develop and strengthen relations with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as a mutually beneficial association.

By intervening virtually in the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council (EAEU body made up of the heads of government of the member states), Marrero Cruz ratified Cuba's commitment to strengthen its insertion in this integration mechanism, from which he received the Observer status in February 2021.

He highlighted that in the meetings held last year, the complexities of achieving sustainable socio-economic development were addressed, prioritizing the expansion of trade relations, the advancement of industrial and investment cooperation, as well as food security. and energetic.

In this sense, he stated, it is worth noting the participation of the Eurasian Economic Commission in the 38th edition of the Havana International Fair, held in November 2022 in Cuba.

During a meeting with the director of Industrial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Nikolay Kushnarev, within the scope of the event, both parties agreed on the need to increase collaboration and commercial exchange, said the Prime Minister.

An immediate objective to achieve, he stressed, could be the proposal presented by the Mariel Special Development Zone for the creation of an EAEU industrial park, a project for which all member states have already given their approval.

Marrero Cruz also mentioned the exchanges within the framework of the Working Groups on the formation of common approaches to regulate the circulation of medicines and medical devices within the Union, as well as in its Pharmacopoeia Committee.

The participation of Cuba in said Working Groups has allowed updating the counterparts on the Norms for the conduct of Clinical Trials of Medical Devices, as well as the projects to modify the Norms for the Registration and Examination of Medicines and their production he commented.

According to the Cuban Prime Minister,

this fluid exchange will allow the producing companies of the Antillean nation and the regulatory authority, to comply with the requirements established for the circulation and commercialization of the island's products in the member countries of the Union.

As part of Cuba's efforts to strengthen ties with the tourism sector of the bloc countries, Marrero extended the invitation to representatives of the States present at the session, to participate in the International Fair of the sector (FITCUBA 2023), to be held in May of this year in the largest of the Antilles.

The links in this sphere have already been developed with the Russian Federation, especially through corporate and health tourism, he indicated, and signified the growing interest that Cuba arouses as a safe and hospitable destination, taking into account its natural benefits and cultural attributes. .

The Cuban Prime Minister recalled that in the coming weeks the Third Session of the Cuba-Eurasian Economic Commission Joint Commission will be held in Havana, in which the fulfillment of the Joint Plan of Action will be followed up.

During the meeting, he said, Cuba hopes to intensify and systematize collaboration with the Union, both at the official level and in business circles.

The Prime Minister's intervention ratified Cuba's invariable determination to collaborate in the implementation of the strategic guidelines for the development of Eurasian economic integration until 2025.

We trust that in this year 2023 and in the years to come, together with the Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union, economic, commercial and scientific-technical collaboration ties will be strengthened, which will allow us to achieve results in accordance with the high level of our political relations, emphasized Marrero Cruz.

He also greeted the people and government of Kazakhstan, who are hosting this session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in the city of Almaty, and thanked them for the cordial invitation to participate in the meeting.

He praised the work carried out by the Eurasian Economic Commission, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary, and predicted success for the Russian Federation in its performance during 2023 as President of the bodies of the Eurasian Economic Union.

On behalf of Cuba, he affirmed that this integration mechanism demonstrated its ability to successfully face and overcome the challenges of the year 2022, marked by great economic turmoil and international tensions.
