Kolkata:

The Calcutta High Court directed the police not to take any coercive action till Monday in connection with the FIR lodged by Mohammad Salim, West Bengal secretary of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) against actor Paresh Rawal for his comments on the Bengali community.

The court asked Salim's counsel to take instructions from his client regarding his position on the FIR, as the actor claimed that he has apologized for his statement.

BJP leader Rawal has approached the High Court in view of the police notice to quash the FIR registered against him and to appear on February 4 in the matter.

Justice Rajasekhar Mantha directed the police not to take any coercive action against Rawal till Monday and adjourned the hearing till that day.

Rawal has said in the petition that his speech, delivered in Gujarati on November 29 during the Gujarat Assembly election campaign, was misinterpreted and mistranslated, allegedly for political vendetta.
