Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Zambia Nellie Butete Kashumba Muti and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

The parliamentary delegation from Zambia met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday in the Parliament House complex.

The delegation has come under the leadership of Nellie Butete Kashumba Muti, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Zambia.

Welcoming the members of the Zambian delegation on behalf of the Indian Parliament, Om Birla congratulated Her Excellency Nelly Butete Kashumba Muti on being elected the first woman Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia. 

Referring to India, the mother of democracy, Birla said that India is the world's largest and vibrant democracy where more than 90 crore voters elect 545 members of the Lok Sabha.

He further said that the people's representatives in the House give expression to the hopes, aspirations and lacks of the citizens.



In the context of India's development journey, Om Birla said that the democratic system has contributed a lot in the progress of the country.

He said that in the last seven decades, the Parliament has enacted many progressive social and economic laws to solve the problems of different sections of the society. Referring to the extensive committee system in the parliamentary system, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that the accountability of the executive through committees And transparency is ensured, thereby strengthening parliamentary supervision.

Birla said that in the current budget session, the Parliament is strongly discharging its role as the watchdog of public finance. 



Describing the bilateral relations between India and Zambia as historically based on multifaceted and mutual cooperation, Birla said that in the present century, the cordial relations between the two countries have been strengthened and the scope of cooperation between the two countries has increased.

Mentioning that India is the fastest growing economy in the world, Birla expressed happiness that bilateral trade and investment between India and Zambia is also increasing steadily.
