An Archaeological Survey of India official said that two stone idols, about 1,200 years old, were found from a pond near the ancient Nalanda University.

Gautami Bhattacharya, Superintending Archaeologist (ASI, Patna circle) said that there are reports that when the villagers living in the area came to know about the discovery of the idols, they started planning to build a temple to house these idols. Gave.

He told PTI-language, "Our officers posted there came to know about it and immediately informed the local police.

We want to display them in the Nalanda Museum.

I requested the state government to hand over these idols immediately under the provisions of the Indian Treasure Trove Act, 1878.

The official said that it has been observed that any antiquities or treasures found below the surface are usually brought by the local people to a nearby temple or other religious places.

But whenever any antiquities or artefacts are found worth more than Rs 10, they must be deposited by the finder in the nearest government treasury, as per the Indian Treasure Trove Act, 1878.

The Collector of the district concerned has the power to acquire the treasury on behalf of the Government.

Bhattacharya said, "I have already written to the state government and requested the concerned authorities to apprise all district magistrates about the provisions of the Act. So that the treasure can be deposited in the safe custody of the district administration."

These idols were found earlier this week from Tarsingh Talab in Sarlichak village.

A year ago, a 1,300-year-old idol of Nag Devi of Pal period was found in this pond.

It is displayed in the ASI Museum in Nalanda.
