The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its protest against the inhumane treatment of

Mikheil Saakashvili

, who is a citizen of Ukraine.

The agency claims human rights violations.

This is stated in a statement on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The text emphasizes the "collapse of democracy in Georgia."

After all, "gross violation of human rights against a Ukrainian citizen goes against the declared course of Tbilisi for EU membership".

"In the worst traditions of the NKVD of the USSR, the Georgian authorities apply psychological and physical violence to Mikheil Saakashvili, deny him urgently needed medical assistance, deliberately creating a direct threat to his life," the text of the document reads.

The Ukrainian ministry calls on the Georgian authorities to immediately stop abusing Saakashvili and hand him over to Ukraine.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also appeals to foreign governments and international organizations to publicly defend the ex-president of Georgia.

Deterioration of Saakashvili's condition

On February 1, Saakashvili took part in the court session via video link from the Vivamedi clinic in Tbilisi.

He then showed the camera what he looks like after being in custody.

In particular, it was clear that the

former Georgian president had lost critical weight.

Saakashvili also asked for treatment.

After the photo of the wasted politician appeared on the Internet, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr

Zelenskyi, said that the Georgian authorities are publicly torturing and killing the former head of state

.

He actually showed a photo of Saakashvili.

It should be noted that the American toxicologist Dave Smith believes that

Saakashvili could have been poisoned with heavy metals.

In particular, it could be mercury, arsenic and barium.

The non-governmental center "Empathy" reported on the conclusions of the commission's forensic medical examination.

They say that

 Saakashvili cannot remain behind bars.

He was found to have more than 20 diagnoses, of which the main ten are "incompatible with imprisonment."
