A three-member panel of the Court of Appeals - Sofia amended the "detention" measures of Ivaylo Pankov and Alexander Istatkov, accused of taking a bribe, in "house arrest", the press center of the court announced.

The main reason for this is that the investigation against the two is in an advanced phase, a large amount of evidence has been collected, and at the same time the accused have been removed from the positions they held in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Given this, the danger of them committing a new crime and influencing the investigation is significantly underestimated, the SAS accepted.

Apart from that, the two have permanent addresses where they will serve the restrictive measure of "house arrest", as well as families, which excludes the possibility of absconding.

Two police officers were caught with a bribe

The well-founded assumption that Pankov and Istatkov committed the crime they are accused of remains unshaken, they can assist in the objective discovery of the truth given their stay under "house arrest".

The decision of the CAS is final and is not subject to appeal or protest.
