The mayor of Pavlikeni, Eng. Emanuil Manolov, has been elected as a member of the strategic board of the Romania-Bulgaria Interreg Program, the press center of the municipality announced.

The Mayor of Pavlikeni municipality, Eng. Emanuil Manolov, was elected as a member of the strategic board of the Interreg VI-A Program Romania-Bulgaria 2021 – 2027. Eng. Manolov enters the Council for the Management of the Implementation of the Territorial Strategy for Integrated Development under the program as a titular representative of North Central Region.

The nomination was made by the Management Board of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NSORB). 

There are six new Bulgarian representatives on the board of the cross-border program.

One incumbent and one deputy incumbent were elected from each of the three planning regions in Northern Bulgaria.

The deputy incumbent from the North Central region is the mayor of Tutrakan municipality, Dimitar Stefanov.

The nominations for the North-West region are the mayors of Mezdra Ivan Asparuhov and Belene Milen Dulev, and for the North-East region - the mayors of General Toshevo Valentin Dimitrov and Kavarna Elena Baltajieva.

Among the commitments of the strategic board will be assisting the governing body in the preparation of packages of application documents, monitoring the progress of the Territorial Strategy implementation according to set indicators, participation in the process of selecting projects for financing within the strategy.

Each of the cross-border cooperation programs has such advice.

They are completely new structures applicable for the first time in the current program period and will function in addition to the Joint Committees for monitoring the programs, BTA adds.

The Territorial Strategy under the Interreg VI-A Romania - Bulgaria 2021 - 2027 program is currently being prepared, based on the development of the EuroVelo 6 cycle route and support for tourism activities related to it.

The indicative budget for the implementation of projects within its scope is EUR 70.6 million. 

Participation in the council is free of charge, and its members will be supported by a dedicated program unit, which is about to be formed.

In the period 2018-2021, the mayor of Pavlikeni municipality was in the leadership of the Network of Associations of Local Authorities from South-Eastern Europe (NALAS), and in the period 2020-2021 he was the president of the organization.

Under his leadership, the work of NALAS was significantly dynamized and the associations from the region systematically exchanged information on the measures introduced by the local authorities in the process of managing the covid crisis.

The network continued to carry out activities related to the promotion of the processes of democratization and decentralization in South-Eastern Europe, in accordance with the principles of the European Charter for Local Self-Government.

In 2021, Eng. Manolov was elected a member of the executive bureau of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEOR), the municipality recalled.
