The European Parliament (EP) canceled the immunity of 2 more deputies due to the largest corruption scandal of the union.

APA reports that the immunity of Belgian MP Mark Tarabella and Italian MP Andrea Cozzolino was revoked in today's vote.

This allowed them to be interrogated by Belgian law enforcement agencies.

Both MPs have previously expressed their desire to cooperate with the Belgian authorities through their lawyers.

They declared that they had no connection with accepting bribes from Qatar and Morocco.

Tarabella herself was seen voting in favor of lifting her immunity during the live vote.

In the report submitted by the Belgian officials on Tarabella, it was stated that it is possible for him to influence the debates and decisions held in the EP in favor of one or more states in exchange for corrupt funds.

In the statement against Tarabella, it was indicated that he was paid 132 thousand and 145 thousand dollars.

In Cozzolino's report, it was emphasized that since 2019, he has cooperated with other persons in order to protect the interests of foreign states in the AP.

Both MPs are members of the centre-left Socialists and Democrats, the second largest political group in the EP.

The corruption scandal known as "Qatargate" came to the fore as a result of the discovery of hundreds of thousands of euros as a result of a raid on several locations in Brussels and Italy in early December last year.
