On Thursday, February 2, the Pechersk District Court of the city of Kyiv imposed a preventive measure on the recently dismissed Deputy Minister of Defense Vyacheslav Shapovalov, who is involved in a criminal case related to the purchase of military products at inflated prices.

This was reported by the interlocutor of the UP in law enforcement agencies and confirmed by RBC-Ukraine sources.

During the investigation (for 2 months), the deputy head of the Ministry of Defense will be in custody with the possibility of being released on bail in the amount of 402 million 600 thousand hryvnias.

Deputy Minister of Defense Vyacheslav Shapovalov was responsible for the rear support of the Armed Forces.

Recently, employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, with the approval of the Prosecutor General's Office, informed him of the suspicion due to overpriced purchases of products for the military.

Shapovalov is accused of allegedly lobbying for the conclusion of contracts for the supply of products for the military at inflated prices, as well as the purchase of low-quality bulletproof vests, helmets, clothing and other items for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for a total amount of over UAH 1 billion.

The deputy minister resigned and was dismissed on January 24.

It will be recalled that Mykhailo Podolyak, the adviser to the head of the President's Office, announced the verification of information on the possible purchase of products for the Armed Forces at inflated prices.

If the facts are confirmed, the guilty will be punished.
