The President of the European Commission emphasized that now "Russia is paying a high price because our (punitive measures) are undermining its economy, setting it back a generation".

Among the heaviest sanctions adopted by the EU since the beginning of the war is the ceiling on the price of Russian oil of 60 dollars per barrel introduced at the beginning of December, notes AFP.

"This is already costing Russia around 160 million euros per day," Von der Leyen said.
