The Belarusian service of Radio Svaboda is launching a new YouTube channel and podcast "History on Svaboda".

The YouTube channel

will be entirely devoted to historical topics.

Broadcast participants from among Belarusian and foreign historians together with Svaboda journalists will look for historical analogues of modern events, talk about unknown facts of Belarusian and world history and try to look at known facts in a new way.

"There is a war of stories going on around Belarus.

Events in Ukraine are no exception.

Russia fires not only rockets and shells, but also historical arguments and historical propaganda.

Ukraine defends itself not only with weapons, but also with national memory, - says the editor of the "History on Freedom" project, doctor of history Siarhei Ablameyka.

- Belarusians also have their own vision of history, which is completely different from the Russian one.

The regime in Minsk adheres mainly to the Russian point of view.

Therefore, the past of Belarus through the eyes of Belarusians will be the main topic of the "History on Freedom" project.

Doctor of history Siarhei Ablameyka

No one expected that such a "war of stories" would begin in the region of Eastern Europe in the 21st century.

Russia actually took the region back in the 19th century, when historians were creating nations.

Belarusian and foreign historians in the free world today are beginning to understand this and will soon be able to say: "Yes, we understand it and accept the challenge".
