GLSDB missiles, which can hit targets at a distance of 150 kilometers, and the transfer of which the United States, according to the media, may announce in the near future, will have the same impact on the course of hostilities as HIMARS used to.

This opinion was expressed by Ivan Yakubets, a military expert and a member of the expert council of the Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Research, FREEDOM informs.

"These are means of armed struggle that are absolutely of the same type in terms of the range of defeating the enemy. Therefore, if HIMARS was allowed to inflict damage up to 76 kilometers, now these missiles will allow us to strike at the rear of the enemy at 150 kilometers, that is, twice as much," the expert said.

He explained that such missiles are very necessary for the Armed Forces.

After all, after Ukraine received HIMARS, the Russians began to place points and other means of logistical support at longer distances so that these MLRS could not reach them.

Jakubets also believes that soon agreements should be reached regarding the transfer of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine.

What is known about the transfer of GLSDB missiles

We will remind you that the first rumors in the mass media about the delivery of GLSDB missiles to Ukraine appeared back in November 2022.

Yesterday, February 1, the Reuters agency reported that these long-range missiles will be included in a new package of military aid from the United States for the first time.

According to the American edition of the Wall Street Journal, a new package of military aid worth 2.2 billion dollars, which will include long-range GLSDB missiles, will be announced on Friday, February 3.

According to the journalists, GLSDB will be delivered within the framework of the Initiative to promote the security of Ukraine.

It finances the acquisition or creation of new weapons, not the removal of old US stockpiles.

Equipment financed under this program usually takes longer to be delivered to Ukraine.

GLSDB rockets: main characteristics

Ukraine can receive GLSDB developed by the American company Boeing and the Swedish Saab, which have a target destruction range of up to 150 km.

This is nearly double the GMLRS capability for HIMARS.

It is noted that the GLSDB can be fired from installations such as the HIMARS system, which the US has already supplied to Ukraine.

The missile also has advanced tracking systems to make it more accurate.

The munitions are equipped with wings that deploy in the air and a rocket engine that provides additional flight range.

This allows the missile to be accurately targeted if launched from an aircraft without putting the pilot at risk.

The GLSDB uses an inertial guidance system and GPS guidance.

One such ammunition costs $40,000.
