The month of February is starting and it is called the month of Phalgun in the Hindu calendar.

Talking about the English calendar, February is only the second month of the year, but according to the Hindu calendar, it is the last month of the year, which is very important from the point of view of religious rituals (February festival).

Big festivals like Mahashivratri, Phulera Dauj, Somvati Amavasya are coming in the month of February.

February 1 - Jaya Ekadashi and Bhishma Ekadashi


The first day of the month of February is the day of Jaya Ekadashi fast.

It is a belief of Jaya Ekadashi that fasting on this day gets rid of the evil spirits.

This day is also called Bhishma Ekadashi and on this day there is a provision to worship Lord Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.



February 5 - Magha Purnima, Lalita Jayanti, Guru Ravidas Jayanti


Magh Purnima bath will be done on February 5.

It is believed that donating sesame seeds on this day brings a lot of virtue.

Ravidas Jayanti will also be celebrated on this day.



February 9 - Dwijapriya Sankashti Chaturthi


Sankashtachi Chaturthi of Falgun month will be celebrated across the country on February 9 and Lord Ganapati's fast will be observed.

It is believed that by observing fast and worship on this day, happiness and wealth resides in the family and blessings of Lord Ganesha are received.

February 12 - Yashoda Jayanti


On February 12, the birthday of Shri Krishna's mother Yashoda will be celebrated.

There are many festivals especially in Mathura, Braj etc. on this occasion.

February 16 - Vijaya Ekadashi


Vijaya Ekadashi will be celebrated on 16th February.

It is believed that fasting and worshiping on this day gives victory over enemies and man gets the fruit of Vajpayee Yagya.

February 18 


On February 18, the festival of Mahashivaratri will be celebrated across the country.

Shiva and Parvati are worshiped on this day and there are grand events and worship lessons in the temples of the country. 

February 20 - Somvati Amavasya


Somvati Amavasya is on February 20.

On this day married women fast for the long life of their husbands.

21 February - Phulera Duj


Phulera Duj is on 21st February, from this day Holi starts in Mathura and Barsana.

It is believed that on this day Lord Krishna plays Holi of flowers with Radha.

February 23 - Vinayaka Chaturthi


Vinayaka Chaturthi fast will be observed across the country on 23 February.

It is believed that by observing this fast one gets the blessings of Lord Ganesha.

February 27 - Holashtak begins


Holashtak starts eight days before Holi.

And these days it is prohibited to do any kind of auspicious work.

Holi is on 7th March and Holashtak is starting from 27th February.
