In Nagaland, NDPP has 40 seats and BJP has 20 seats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party will contest the upcoming Nagaland Assembly elections in alliance with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP).

Under this, 40 seats have gone to NDPP's account and 20 to BJP's account.

Elections will be held on February 27 for the 60-member assembly in the state.

BJP has also announced the names of its candidates for these 20 seats.

Party's Nagaland unit president Temjen Imna Along has been nominated by the party from Alongtaki seat.

The names of the candidates were finalized in a meeting of the party's Central Election Committee (CEC) held on Wednesday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chaired by JP Nadda.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and all the members of CEC were also present in this meeting.

In a press conference held at the party headquarters, the party's Nagaland in-charge Nalin Kohli, national secretary Rituraj Sinha and state president Along announced the names of the candidates.

Along said that it has been decided in the CEC meeting that BJP and NDPP will fight together in the 2023 Nagaland assembly elections and under this, NDPP will field candidates on 40 seats and BJP will fight on 20 seats.

Kohli said that out of 20 seats for which the BJP has announced candidates, the party's sitting MLAs have been re-nominated for 11 seats.

The party has cut the ticket of a sitting MLA.

He told that four candidates who faced defeat in the last assembly elections of 2018 have been given tickets again, while five new faces have been fielded.

Voting for the formation of the new assembly in Nagaland will be held on February 27, while the counting of votes will take place on March 2.

The last date for filing nomination papers will be February 7, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations will be February 10.

The term of the 60-member Nagaland assembly ends on March 12.

The total number of voters in the state is 13,09,651.

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) is currently in power in Nagaland.

Presently the state assembly has a total of 59 members.

Of these, the NDPP has 41 members, the BJP 12, the Naga People's Front (NPF) four, and two independents, while one seat is currently vacant.

In the last assembly elections, no party got majority in Nagaland.

The NPF, led by former Chief Minister TR Zeliang, emerged as the single largest party by winning 26 seats.

In this election, NDPP led by senior leader Neiphiu Rio won 17 seats and BJP won 12 seats.

Later BJP and NDPP formed the government in the state with the support of Janata Dal United and some other parties and Neiphiu Rio became the Chief Minister of the state for the fourth time.
