Finally, the Bulgarian parliament found some formula to calculate the minimum wage.

This was stated to journalists in the National Assembly by Luboslav Kostov from the National Security Council, who commented on the adopted changes to the Labor Code, regarding the amount of the minimum wage, reported a Novini.bg reporter.

Final: The deputies decided on the amount of the minimum wage

"On the one hand, the formula is correct and it meets one part of the directive, but it doesn't meet another part of the directive. This directive that we've all been talking about all autumn is the Adequate Minimum Wages Directive. It describes how we measure that adequacy . A large number of indicators are taken into account, one of them is - life expectancy. Currently, the ratio is fixed - 50% minimum wage to average wage, which does not allow to test the adequacy of the minimum wage. This fixation of minimum wage to average is wrong, although the formula is correct.

Today, a half-victory was achieved for the Bulgarian worker. The bet was lost in the negotiations with the employers and the minimum wage will not be raised from July 1, as promised,"

he was categorical.

44% are people who receive salaries up to BGN 1,000 gross

Vanya Grigorova from KT "Podkrepa" also spoke on the subject.

"I begin by thanking the proponents from the BSP and the "Vazrazhdane" party, who fought for this bill to enter the plenary hall. Today, however, there was a voted text on the minimum wage.

This provides some basis, but the problem is that an imperative text was adopted, namely - that the minimum wage be exactly 50% of the average gross wage, and not as a floor of the minimum wage.

This is a problem because the social dialogue in the NSTS is meaningless.

The right-wing parties in the National Assembly decided that all international regulations do not apply to Bulgaria and adopted an imperative text on the amount of the minimum wage.

This text contradicts the minimum wage adequacy directive.

If anyone expects that the minimum wage is determined by some formula X=Y+Z, they should part with that illusion.

We cannot simplify life and social conditions to a single formula.

This will be changed because it goes against European directives.

The increase will not take effect from July 1, unfortunately.

Obviously, an increase of less than 10% does not correspond to the increase in prices.

The people's representatives said literally - we are not interested in the impoverishment of the Bulgarian worker.

It is not true that the increase cannot happen from July 1.

In two months there will be another election.

We hope there will be some regular government then.

It can and must adopt a new budget.

In this budget, they could have included an increase in the minimum wage, but they didn't," Grigorova revealed.
