In his words, this is another important step in the deepening of bilateral relations with neighboring Serbia and the development of the entire region.

The interconnector is a bet for the future, but it is an expression of the will of both countries to jointly build a vision for our common European future, based on solidarity, mutual trust and support, innovative approaches and new technologies.

This project is an example of how our sustainable cooperation with the European Commission leads to mutual benefits not only for our countries.

It gives new opportunities to the region through real diversification and security of supply.

It is an example of the successful implementation of the European strategy for affordable energy, the president said, quoted by BTA.

"Serbia's success in maintaining and building new connections with neighboring countries through this interconnector is already a success for Bulgaria as well, because we get the opportunity for expanded access to European markets," said the head of state.

"Both Bulgaria's successful policy for more connectivity in the region, as well as the commissioning of the interconnector with Greece, the agreement with Turkey last month for access to their liquefied gas terminals, is already a success for Serbia as well, because it will get access to new sources of gas through the Southern Gas Corridor and the liquefied gas terminals in the Aegean Sea.

This is an example of what expanded cooperation leads to - more access, more gas for both industry and households, a drop in prices, a cleaner environment, reduced carbon emissions and a sustainable economy", Rumen Radev also pointed out

He noted that Bulgaria has proven to be a reliable transit country.

"Even in the worst situation, when we ran out of supplies of Russian gas, and suddenly, we continued reliably to deliver this gas to Serbia through our territory," he explained.

The President recalled that Bulgaria is the third largest net carrier of electrical energy in Europe and we continue to provide reliability for energy systems for our neighbors, including Serbia.

Bulgaria was the initiator of the proposals to the European Commission for assistance to stabilize the energy systems of the Western Balkans.

Thanks to our initiative, in solidarity with our neighbors, it is already a fact in the energy package of these countries.

This is not just a physical connection, we have the opportunity from now on to work in such a way as to consolidate the quantities of gas we need, to negotiate together with supplier countries and achieve a better price and better conditions, he said the president.

In his words, gas connections in our region are not just infrastructure projects – they open up opportunities, they are a symbol and pledge of our region's potential for future development.

"This means security, cooperation, diversification, this is the way and the key to a peaceful, democratic and prosperous environment in our region," noted President Rumen Radev
